Gloria Johnson Obituary

In Loving Memory of Gloria M. Johnson

1928 - 2024

Gloria M. Johnson, a trailblazing woman, talented artist, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away peacefully on March 18th, 2024 at the age of 96. She leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, and remarkable achievements.

Born in 1928, Gloria's life was a testament to resilience and passion. She was a visionary who blazed trails in multiple spheres. A gifted artist from a young age, she pursued her passion for fashion, attending Boston School of Fashion Design. In her twenties, she opened her boutique store on Newbury Street in Boston, aptly named Chez Nous, where her creativity and unique designs captured the hearts of many.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Gloria was known for her boundless generosity and unwavering kindness. She was a mentor to countless individuals, guiding them with her wisdom and encouragement. Her dedication to helping others extended far beyond the realms of fashion. Gloria served as a trustee on the American Liver Foundation, tirelessly advocating for organ donation and supporting those in need of life-saving transplants. At the age of 70, she received a liver transplant herself, a gift for which she remained forever grateful. Motivated by her own experience, Gloria worked tirelessly to ensure that others could receive the same level of care and support that she had been fortunate enough to receive.

Gloria's legacy of compassion and service will continue to inspire all who knew her. She touched the lives of many with her warmth, grace, and indomitable spirit. She will be deeply missed by her beloved family, including her devoted husband, Joseph Johnson, her children John Penta (Betsy), Patricia Duffy (Mark),  Douglas Penta (deceased), her grandchildren Robert Penta (Ashley) , Christopher Penta (Ashley), Amanda Duffy (Max), Matthew Penta (Emily), Douglas Penta, Jacqueline Penta, Emily Duffy Foster (Daniel), and great grandchildren, Ryder Penta, Parker Penta, Ava Foster, Carmela Duffy Winograd and Palmer Penta. She also leaves three stepchildren, Bruce  Johnson (Julie), Bob Johnson (Connie) and Beverly Marchi  (Dudley).

A family celebration of Gloria's life will be held in Chatham, MA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Liver Foundation in her honor. https://liverfoundation.org
