Mary Leonard Obituary

Mary “Maureen” (Foley) Leonard graced us with her last smile on Sunday, April 7, 2024.  She passed away peacefully at the age of 85 after a long battle with dementia and she treasured her time with family through her final days.

Maureen was born in Boston on Jan. 3, 1939, as the oldest of 3 children to Irish immigrants.  She attended the Holy Trinity Schools in Boston and after graduation she began working at the New England Telephone Co.  She later married, had 2 daughters, and raised her family in Franklin, MA.  She worked at the local Star/Shaws Market where she came to know everyone in town and always knew someone wherever she went.  Her cheerful personality and love of “chitty chat” brought her many friends throughout the years, including her cherished group of the Catholic Women’s Club at St. Mary’s Church.

Maureen had many passions including her love of dancing-In her younger days she frequented Mosley’s On the Charles and in her later years she showed off her footwork at the nursing home, never missing a beat. She also enjoyed going to the theater, live music and sightseeing.

Her favorite local spots included the Big Apple Orchard, Ogunquit, ME and Rockport, MA, where she could enjoy the coastal views, gift shops and strolls, and she was thrilled to share them with her daughters and later her grandchildren.

There was nothing more important to Maureen than her daughters, grandkids and her siblings.  She felt pure joy when spending leisurely weekends with her family, attending her grandkids’ activities, and celebrating holidays and birthdays with loved ones.

Maureen was predeceased by her parents Margaret (O’Connor) and Patrick Foley and her brother, William Foley.  She is survived by her daughter Kristine (Leonard) Quinn, along with her husband Bob and daughter Avery (of Upton, MA), by her daughter Jennifer Leonard-Schaffstein, along with her husband Mike, and sons Dylan and Calvin (of Needham, MA) and by her sister and brother-in-law, Pat and John MacPherson (of Roslindale, MA)

Visitation will be held in the Eaton Funeral Home, 1351 Highland Ave. Needham, on Friday, May 10th from 2-3:45, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Church, 1360 Highland Ave, Needham at 4pm.
