Sidney Farnsworth Jr. Obituary

Sidney Woods Farnsworth Jr. was born 14 May 1927 Upper Montclair NJ to Sidney Sr. & Louise, and peacefully passed away on 13 March 2024.  He was the brother of the late Emily Frick & Ann Huggler. He attended Lawrenceville School, NJ, volunteered for Navy service at the age of 17 and graduated Yale University 1950 with a degree in Industrial Administration.  Sidney married Laura Wheelwright March 15, 1958.  Settled in Wellesley MA, 1963.  

Sidney started work at NECCO, moved to HA Johnson, and eventually to John E. Cain Co., of Ayer, MA where he rose to CEO.  He was involved with Wellesley town affairs, served as the DPW Commissioner, was a member of the Permanent Building Committee, and was a town meeting member.   Additionally in his retirement Sid taught at Tufts University, served on several boards, Corporate, Public, and Non-Profit.  Sid had a lifelong passion for cars and is an honorary member of the Vintage Sports Car Club where he served as editor in its infancy.  He raced and drove his cars throughout New England and the country.  Sid was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing locally at Brae Burn CC, as well as other courses throughout the country and world.  He always tried to be active and enjoyed sailing, squash, tennis, skiing and hiking as well.

A devoted husband to his wife late Laura for sixty-one years, Sidney is survived by: son Samuel (wife Donna, granddaughters, Maria, Sophia), son William (wife Trish, granddaughter Sarah), son Thomas (wife Erin, grandson Tyler) as well as cousins: John Farnsworth, and Mimi Stevenson.
