Alan Reid West passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday November 29, 2018. Alan is survived by his beloved wife Winifred of 65 years. Alan was the devoted father of Peter of Needham MA, Elliot of Needham MA, Cynthia of Westwood MA, Susan of North Reading MA, and Melissa of Los Gatos CA. He is also survived by his loving grandchildren Chelsea Paige, Jackson, Isabel, Gabrielle, Carlos, Joshua, and Jada-Mirian. Brother of the late Jean Wetmore and her children of Minnesota and Carolyn Turner and her daughter of Acton Massachusetts.
Alan grew up in Brookline MA and attended Brookline High School as a 4 letterman athlete. Alan attended Northeastern University where he studied finance and participated in hockey and track graduating with a Masters in Finance. He was a decorated veteran and served in the Korean War. Following his graduation he joined Solomon Bros for 25 years as a institutional bond salesman and later was the Chief financial officer of the Commonwealth for the teachers retirement pension fund.
Alan was very generous with his time and skills and volunteered at many organizations including Christ Episcopal Church, Riverside Community care, Olympics, The Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts and the Retired Men’s Glee Club.
Alan was passionate about music, singing for both the Christ Episcopal Church and the Retired Men’s Glee Club. He enjoyed gardening, ice skating, hockey, fishing, camping, birdwatching and spending time with family.
We are so very grateful for the loving care Good Shepard Hospice provided.
A Memorial Service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church, 1132 Highland Ave, Needham, on Saturday, December 8th at 11:00 am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.
