Arthur D. “Scotty” MacAlpine of Dover, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family, on October 12, 2018, at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He was 72 years old. Scotty grew up in Sherborn, Massachusetts and served in the United States Navy. Scotty had a long and rewarding career, having worked as a building engineer at both the John Hancock Life Insurance Company in Boston and at the Cape Cod Hospital. Scotty was a devoted husband to his wife, Jacey (Wallace) MacAlpine. He adored his son, David MacAlpine, David's wife Robyn (Chisholm) MacAlpine, and their children Landon and Fiona MacAlpine, of Hingham. Scotty was also a thoughtful and supportive stepfather to Judd Smith, his wife Tina, and their children Donovan and Alexis, of Reading; and Jackie Anderson, her husband Jeff, and their children Emma and Kate, of Medfield. Scotty leaves his mother, Marjorie MacAlpine, of Natick; his brother, Alan MacAlpine; and Alan's wife Rita, of Ashland. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Tara Wallace of Walpole and J.W. of Holliston. Scotty was an incredibly hard worker, a consummate handyman, a history buff, and a dog lover.
A funeral service will be held at The Dover Church on Thursday, October 18th at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Greater Boston Animal Rescue League (arlboston.org) or to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (dana-farber.org). Scotty’s family would also like to extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to the intensive care nurses at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
