Edward Hamilton Obituary

Edward Peter Hamilton, October 10, 1951 -  June 29, 2019 Needham, MA

Edward Peter Hamilton died peacefully at home on Saturday, June 29 after a 7 year courageous battle with colon cancer.

Edward was born on October 10, 1951 and grew up in West Islip, New York. Growing up, he enjoyed getting into mischief with his sister and six brothers. During his youth, he enjoyed summering on the family boat on Lake Champlain. Ed attended Tufts University (‘73) where he played lacrosse and was co-captain. He later received his MBA from Harvard Business School (‘76). After graduating, he went on to have a successful career in finance, finishing his career at Kepha Partners in Waltham.

While at Tufts, he met the love of his life Virginia (Ginny) Hamilton. They married on June 26, 1976 and were married for 43 years. Ginny and Ed enjoyed many adventures together. After they got married, they drove cross country and lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for 6 years. While in California, they welcomed their first daughter Stacy. In 1982, they moved back east to be near family. They soon settled in Needham where they purchased their family home and welcomed their second daughter Meredith.

As a family, they enjoyed summers in Mattapoisett, traveling, and going on day trips on the family boat. Ed always enjoyed coaching, doing anything outdoors, and cooking with his children, especially baking his famous apple pie.

Ed, always with his zest for adventure, enjoyed cross country skiing, snorkeling, scuba diving and hiking. Some of his other hobbies included playing the guitar, gardening, and fixing almost anything. What he loved most was being on his boat and fishing. Most weekends in the summer you could find Ed fishing on his boat Prime Time in Buzzards Bay. Many friends and neighbors would attest to how good a fisherman he was by the plentiful catch he routinely delivered to them.

Ed loved being Grandpa to his three grandchildren, Ben, Katherine and Eddie. A big kid at heart, he was always up for playing with them. His favorite activities with them were playing sports, going crabbing and playing endless competitive games of Uno and croquet. Ed shared his love of fishing with his grandkids. In his final days, he was even able to take his youngest grandson Eddie out for his first boat ride.

Ed is survived by his wife Virginia (Streeter) Hamilton, his daughter Stacy Mucci and her husband Rich of Winchester, his daughter Meredith Mavrikos and her husband Drew of Westwood, and his grandchildren Ben Mucci (9), Katherine Mucci (4) and Eddie Mavrikos (1). He is also survived by his brothers Paul, Tom, John, Bill and Peter, as well as many nieces and nephews. Ed is the son of the late Karolin and Paul Hamilton, and was predeceased by his sister Katherine Eastman and brother Jim.
