Geneviève Loup Searls of Greenwich, Connecticut, passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease on September 22, 2018 in Belmont, Massachusetts. She was born on January 8, 1936 to Monique Lavergne and Edouard Loup in Toulouse, France. Geneviève met her lifelong friend Anne-Marie de Piessac during her high school years. She earned a Master’s Degree in medieval history and literature from La Sorbonne University in Paris, France. Geneviève fell in love with an American named David Churchill Searls whom she met in Paris. They married on June 27, 1970. She emigrated to the United States in 1970 to live with her husband in New York City. She enjoyed teaching French literature at the Spence private high school in New York City for several years. Geneviève was a loving and devoted mother to her son David Eric Searls who was born in 1975. Her husband died in March 1978 after sustaining complications from a car accident.
From 1992 until 2013, she was a realtor at Prudential Connecticut Realty in Greenwich, Connecticut. She served as the President of the Alliance Française in Greenwich. As a member of the Second Congregational Church, Geneviève also served as a volunteer comforting sick and elderly members of the Greenwich community.
Geneviève is survived by her son David Eric Searls, daughter-in-law April Levin, grandson Caleb Searls, stepdaughter Alexandria Searls, brother Jean-Pierre Loup, sister Françoise Fontenelle, sister Anne-Marie Loup-Maillot, brother Bernard Loup, and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Her life will be celebrated with a Memorial Service at 9am in the Chapel at United Parish Church at 210 Harvard Street on Saturday September 29 in Brookline, Massachusetts, with interment to follow at noon at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Plympton, Massachusetts. Visiting hours are from 8:30am to 9am on September 29 at the United Parish Church. Friends and family are kindly invited to attend.
