Harlan Dean Venable of Westwood entered into rest on January 2, 2019 after 4 years at Briarwood Rehabilitation and Health Facility. He was the beloved husband of Anna Jean and the devoted son of the late Elmer Bryan and Grace Venable and father of Bryan Louis Venable and wife Lyubov and grandson Michael Venable of Boulder Creek, Calif. He is also survived by his Stepchildren: Frank DeMaio and his wife Pauline, Grace Paden of Nashville, Tn., Maria Wythe and her husband Walter and Mark DeMaio and his wife Lisa and nine step grandchildren: Gabriella, Amanda, Katelyn, Paul, Ava and Luca DeMaio, Thomas and Grace Lee Paden and Brianna Wythe.
He was born in Russellville, Arkansas; formerly of Washington D.C., Los Angeles and Austin, Texas. His schooling was acquired in Washington D.C. where his parents had moved. He earned an Electrical Engineering degree in 1961 from Lehigh University and an MBA in 1972 from the University of So. Calif. His first job was project engineer at Aero Geo Astro Corp in Maryland. Later he became a senior staff engineer at Hughes Aircraft Co. in Torrence, Calif. While at this company he authored many papers on switching regulator stability analysis and patented a high efficiency power supply topology. Before moving to Boston, he had moved to Austin, Tx. and started a company in his name that still exists. After moving to Boston, he consulted at Acumentrics Corp. and Doble Engineering Co.
Private service and burial will be in Morrillton, Arkansas in the family plot. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 450 Brookline Ave, Boston, Ma. 02215 or Carter Memorial United Methodist Church, 800 Highland Ave, Needham Ma. 02494.
