Helen F. (Ahern) Bennotti

Helen F. Bennotti of Needham, passed away peacefully at the Tippett Home on July 18, 2018 at the age of 95.  Beloved wife of the late Bruno F. Bennotti and devoted mother of Linda Smulligan of Brewster, Paul Bennotti of Newton and Nancy Bennotti-Rhodes of Chevy Chase, MD, grandmother of Stephenie Smulligan-Maldanis, and Liv Rhodes, great grandmother of Emelia Maldanis and Evelyn Maldanis.

Helen was born on March 16th 1923 in East Boston, the daughter to the late Hugh Ahern Sr., and Mabel (Gould) Ahern.  She was the loving sister to her late brothers Hugh Ahern Jr., and Paul Ahern and late sisters Mary Lagos and Theresa Harrison.  She is survived by her sister Marian Brundige of Derry, NH. She was a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.

 The family resided in Dorchester, where Helen attended Dorchester High for Girls. She began active duty with the United States Marine Corps on October 5, 1943 where she held the rank of Sergeant until her honorable discharge on December 7, 1945.  Prior to her service in WWII, Helen worked as a telephone operator for New England Telephone and Telegraph in Boston. 

A Needham resident for 70 years, she was proud to be a loving mother and housewife and happiest spending time with her brothers and sisters and other close family members and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held in the Eaton Funeral Home, 1351 Highland Ave, Needham, on Saturday July 28th at 11 am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held Saturday morning from 10 – 11 am, prior to the service. Interment with Military Honors at Woodlawn Cemetery in Wellesley. A reception will follow at the Sheraton Hotel in Needham. In lieu of flowers, donations in Helen’s name may be made to the Stanley R. Tippett Hospice Home, 920 South St, Needham, MA 02492.
