Helen Vyres passed away at age 101 on Sunday, November 25, 2018. She was born on January 28, 1917, in Portland Oregon of Peter and Polixeni Maimonis. Pre-deceased by husband Stratis Vyres, she leaves behind two daughters, Paula Vyres, Virginia Kakridas, wife of John Kakridas; two grandchildren, Peter Kakridas and wife Sue Kakridas; Elaine Kakridas Duguay wife of Frederick Duguay; and four great grandchildren, John Kakridas, Kristine Kakridas, Olivia Duguay, and Alexa Duguay.
As a person she was generous, friendly, and made fast friends wherever she went. She valued her friends, and was devoted to her relatives. She was also unconventional in many ways for a woman of her generation, and wasn’t stuck in the old ways.
A Funeral Service will be held in St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 57 Brown St., Weston, on Tuesday, December 4th at 10am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visitation will be held in the church on Tuesday morning from 9-10 am prior to the service. Interment at Newton Cemetery will be followed by a luncheon at St. Demetrios Church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations in Helen’s name may be made to St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Weston or to MGH MIND Research (https://www.massgeneral.org/neurology/research/researchlab.aspx?id=1066)
