John “Jack” Charles Mathews, 86, died Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Needham.
He leaves his beloved wife of 65 years, Patricia (Green) Mathews; his three daughters; Karen Mathews and her husband, Girish Punj; Susan Mathews; and Janet Jimenez and her husband, Israel Jimenez and their children, Alicia, Angie and Christian Jimenez. As well as many nieces and nephews and friends. He also leaves behind Willie, his adored dachshund dog.
Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of Robert Mathews and Emma (Sommers) Mathews. He has resided in Needham for the past 56 years.
Jack served in the US air force during the Korean War as a military air police officer. He was stationed overseas in England and that is where he met Patricia Green. They were married in 1954 in the Church of England. After serving, Jack worked in insurance and in customer service for Patterson Dental. He was a hard-working, dedicated employee. This won him recognition over the years from his employers.
Jack enjoyed traveling with his wife and especially taking photographs of their adventures. He also loved to take videos and photographs of his family. He was a loving grandfather to his three grandchildren and he took great pride in their accomplishments.
Visitation will be at the Eaton Funeral Home, 1351 Highland Ave, Needham, on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 from 9:30 am to 11 am.
