Lily Ethier Obituary

Lily N. (Penez) Ethier, 96, of Newton passed away on December 26, 2018. Beloved wife of the late Raymond T. Ethier. Devoted mother of Denise Ethier and her husband, Mick Provencher of Cambridge, Raymond L. Ethier and his wife, Debbie of Newton, and Jean-Claude Ethier and his wife, Su of Northport, NY. She will be remembered lovingly by her grandchildren, Tim Ethier and his wife Melissa Darr, Alex, Katie, and Ben Ethier, and Xavier Provencher, and by her many nieces. 

Lily was born in Woonsocket, Rhode Island and graduated from Regis College in 1944.  She received her Master’s degree from Boston University taught foreign languages for over 20 years in the Needham Public Schools. For many years, the Guild of Saint Francis at Sacred Heart Church was a gratifying part of her life.

She will be remembered for her giving nature, her independence, and her dedication to family. Painting, food, weekends in Falmouth, travel, and family traditions brought her joy. She cherished the friendships she made throughout her life.

Visiting hours at Eaton and Mackay Funeral Home, 465 Centre Street, NEWTON CORNER, on Wednesday, January 2, from 4-7pm.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church, Newton Centre on Thursday, January 3, at 10:30am, followed by interment at Holyhood Cemetery, Chestnut Hill. Relatives and friends kindly invited. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lily’s memory to Regis College, Office of Institutional Advancement & Alumni Relations, 235 Wellesley Street, Weston, MA 02493, or to the Guild of Saint Francis of Sacred Heart Church, guildofstfrancisnewtonma@gmail.com.
