Mark Kelley Obituary

Mark Emmett Kelley, 80, of Needham, MA, formerly of New Canaan, CT passed away on January 12, 2019.  He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Madeline Carey Kelley and survived by his five children: Mark & Anne Kelley, Wellesley, MA; Carey (Kelley) & Paul Stenberg, Needham, MA; Matthew & Maggie Kelley, New Canaan, CT; Jason & Kerrie Kelley, Darien, CT; and Jennifer (Kelley) & Kevin Hogan, Ridgewood, NJ. Mark has 17 grandchildren: Ryan, Meghan, Lauren, Owen, Kelley, William, Madeline, Thomas, Michael, Sarah, Maura, Matthew, Jack, Campbell, Kathryn, Timothy, and Elizabeth. 

Born in Albany, NY, Mark was the youngest of five children to Frank and Helen Kelley (deceased), siblings Frank Kelley (deceased), Helen Kelley Whalen (deceased), LT General (retired) Robert Kelley & Patricia Austin, Marblehead, MA; Brian & Gwen Kelley, Harwich, MA.

Mark was raised in New Canaan, CT and graduated from New Canaan High School, lettering in four varsity sports.  He went on to study and play football and basketball at Cheshire Academy and graduated from Fairfield University in 1963 as a student athlete lettering in basketball.  Mark began his career at the Burndy Corporation, Norwalk and left to become owner and president of Bridgeport Moulded Products, Moldmark Plastics and New Hampshire Mold and Molding.

Mark’s love for athletics continued as he coached youth football, basketball, and baseball in New Canaan, including his own five children.  He was inducted into the New Canaan High School Hall of Fame in 2016.  Mark was an active member of St. Aloysius Parish where he led weekly prayer meetings, began the Life in Spirit Seminar and was a founding member of the Emmaus Retreat program.

Mark’s life will be celebrated with a funeral mass on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 10:30am at St. Aloysius Church in New Canaan, CT.  In lieu of wake, the Kelley family will have an open greeting at St. Aloysius Church from 9:30am – 10:30am.  In Mark’s memory, donations can be directed to Salesian Missions, 2 Lefevre Lane, New Rochelle, NY 10801-5710 https://salesianmissions.org/.
