Nancy Blue Lane, of North Hill Needham, formerly of Wellesley, passed away on Monday, June 25th at Mass General Hospital. An elementary teacher in the Wellesley Public Schools for 34 years, Nancy was a resident at North Hill Assisted Living in Needham, where she met many of her former school parents. She was 89 and she is greatly missed.
Mrs. Lane graduated from Dana Hall School in Wellesley, MA in 1946 and Wheelock College Boston, in 1950. She received her Masters in Education degree from Boston University in 1959. Her teaching career prior to setting back in Wellesley, took her to elementary grades in East Orange, NJ, and five years also, in Hanover, NH. While in Wellesley, she co-taught most of her years with Sylvia Dickey and was a major contributor to the betterment of teaching styles at that time.
Besides being active in school problems after retirement, she worked hard in the Wellesley Hills Woman's Club, organizing their big fund raising annual bridge and the Wellesley polls at election times in Wellesley.
While Mrs. Lane has no immediate blood family, she is survived by Thomas-Christian Horne Mix of Wellesley, MA, and Hally Mix Mundel of Newton, MA. We ask that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to Wheelock College of Education & Human Development Fund. We will all miss her ready smile, sharp intelligence, and sense of humor.
