Philip A. “Phil” Christophe, 86, of Chatham, and formerly of Needham, passed away on December 20, 2018. Phil was born and raised in Needham and graduated from Needham High School, Dartmouth College and the Amos Tuck School of Business Administration. Before his retirement, he was President and CEO of Rochester Shoe Tree Company and previously worked as Vice President of Finance and Administration at Worthen Industries.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Carol (Hunter) Christophe and children David (Marti) Christophe of Chatham; Stephen (Katherine) Christophe of Clifton, VA; and Karen (Pres) Romeyn of Darien, CT. “Pops” is also survived by grandchildren Marianna (Auston) Beck of Darien; David Christophe Jr. of Walnut Creek, CA; Andrew Christophe of Burke, VA; Sarah Christophe of Washington, DC; Philip Christophe II of Norfolk, VA; Henry Romeyn of New York, NY; Ted Romeyn of Andover, MA; Max Romeyn of Darien; and, great grand-daughters Ainsley and Elodie Beck.
In his free time, Phil loved to sail, play golf, and most of all spend time with family. For many years, he and Carol wintered in Naples, FL where they enjoyed golf and dining with friends at the Country Club of Naples. In Chatham, Phil volunteered at Chatham A’s games, the Railroad Museum, and St. Christopher’s Thrift Shop. In addition, he was a member of the Chatham Retired Men’s Club. Phil was also past president of the Needham YMCA, a trustee at both First Mutual of Boston and Glover Memorial Hospital, and a member of the Vestry of Christ Episcopal Church in Needham.
A Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel of Christ Episcopal Church, 1132 Highland Ave, Needham, on Saturday, January 19th at 11am. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Cape Cod Healthcare Foundation-VNA Hospice, P.O. Box 370, Hyannis, MA 02601 or at www.capecodhealth.org/give
