Raymond Locke Obituary

Raymond S. Locke, of Weston, formerly of Newton, Dec. 2nd.  Beloved husband of Sally (Raymond) Locke, with whom he shared 56 years of joyful marriage.  Loving father of Steven and his wife, Suzanne, of Melrose, Dana of Watertown, and Rebecca and her partner, Vicki, of Rochester, NY.  Adoring Papa to Connor and Ryan of Melrose.  Brother of Randy and wife, Marty, of Minnesota.

Ray graduated from Barrington High School in 1956 where he earned All-State Honors in indoor and outdoor track, and basketball. He was named the Providence Journal Honor Roll Boy Athlete of the Year and Schoolboy Athlete of the Year (1955-56), and was later inducted into the Barrington High School Hall of Fame in 2008.  Following graduation, Ray attended the University of Michigan and was the Big Ten Shot Put Champion in 1960 and earned three varsity letters.  He then served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1964.  He received an MBA from Northeastern University and went on to a successful career in computer systems management, serving most of his years at Digital Equipment Corporation.  Digital later merged with Compaq and Ray oversaw their Y2K project before retiring in 2000.

Ray was selfless when it came to helping others.  He was a dedicated community volunteer and a board member at the Women’s Lunch Place in Boston.  Ray was an avid biker, sailor, traveler and lover of nature.  He cherished time with family, and especially with his grandchildren with whom he shared countless adventures and memories.

Burial will be private.

Contributions in Ray’s name can be made to the Weston Public Library or the Fuller Craft Museum in Brockton, MA.
