Richard Hershey Obituary

Richard F. Hershey, a Needham resident since 1982, died suddenly August 23, 2018. He was 68.

Richard was born in Washington, DC and raised in Riverton, NJ.  He had a natural ability to fix anything and a desire to build, which led him to the University of South Carolina where he graduated with an engineering degree. He worked several years for Nikon in their semiconductor division.  For the past 12 years, Richard worked for Shin Etsu Microsi, Inc in technical sales.  His work at both companies allowed him to travel, which he loved.

Richard is survived by his wife Millicent “Penny” (Bacchieri) Hershey, his children, Richard Hershey of VA, William Hershey of WV, Paul Hershey of VA, Sabrina Hershey of OR, Melissa Hershey of RI, and 8 grandchildren. He was the brother of Steven Hershey and Ami Berkowitz.

Richard was never without a quick joke and loved to make people smile.  He enjoyed photography, sailing, and learning about the latest technology.  Above all else, Richard loved to travel and spend time with his family. He was so proud of his children and grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held for Richard on Friday, Sept 7 at 12 PM (noon) in the Eaton Funeral Home (1351 Highland Avenue), followed by interment in Brookdale Cemetery, Dedham.  Visiting hours will be prior to the service from 10:30 AM until 12 PM.

In lieu of flowers please make donations in Richard’s memory to the American Diabetes Association, 2451 Crystal Drive, Suite 900, Arlington, VA 22202.
