Robert T. Cohen, age 93, passed away at home in Needham surrounded by his family on Monday, February 4, 2019. He was born on March 17, 1925 in Dorchester to Lionel and Clara (Amoroso) Cohen. He grew up in Thompsonville (Newton) and lived in Needham for 57 years. Bob proudly served in the Navy during World War II. He was an Aviation Electronics Technician on the USS Intrepid. He was a member of the VFW Post in Needham, the American Legion George D. Carson Post 141 of Newton Centre, and the Iron Angels. He was a volunteer at the VA Hospital in West Roxbury for 25 years. He was also a member of the Heartbeats and served as a peer counselor.
Bob is survived by his wife of 62 years Mary E. (Barron) Cohen. Devoted father of Cheryl Marino and her husband Anthony, Janet Hennrikus and her husband Greg, Robert M. Cohen and his wife Susan, and James Cohen and his wife Margaret. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Christopher Marino, Anthony Marino, Allyssa Marino, Jacqueline Maxwell, Brittany Hennrikus, Gregory Hennrikus, Mitchell Cohen, Julie Cohen, Michael Cohen, Mary Kathryn Cohen, and a great granddaughter Camille Cohen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at 11:00 am in St. Joseph Church, 1362 Highland Ave, Needham. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. A private burial with Military Honors will be at the Massachusetts National Cemetery at a later date. Donations can be made in Bob’s name to the Smile Train or the Good Shepherd Community Hospice of Newton, MA.
