Ron Hylen Obituary

Ronald S. Hylen, 89, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2019 at his home of 42 years in Needham

Ron was born in December 14, 1929 in Springfield, MA and would have turned 90 this December

The family moved to Braintree, MA and later to Needham where Ron Graduated from the High School. His Guidance Counselor suggested that he should go to a College in Springfield- The American International College, which he did and left his mark by being on the Rowing Team. After graduation Selective Service called him up and trained him for two years in the Army Medical Corps, serving in various Army bases in Virginia during the Korean War.

In 1954 he fell in love and married Ellen Quin who had just graduated from University of New Hampshire.  Ron was an avid photographer and both he and Ellen enjoyed traveling throughout Europe and driving in Canada and United States where he took many outstanding photos

Ellen worked for the Liberty Mutual Insurance Company in Boston for over 30 years, retiring as Assistant Vice President

He enjoyed coaching Little League, became the Chairman for the American Red Cross-and was one of the top blood donors who recruited many to do the same during each blood drive.

In 1960  he worked in Sales Management at  the William Carter Company in the Heights and spent several years with the Hano Co.

In more recent years dedicated himself to working at the Needham Historical Society in obtaining many of the High School class year books for their collection.

On November 14, 2004,  Ron & Ellen held a huge 50th Wedding Anniversary Party at Ken’s Steak House located in Framingham on Route 9. They had invited over 100 friends and family to help them celebrate.

Ron for the last three years had not been well since his last trip with his wife Ellen in Hawaii.

Ron was a devoted husband to his wife Ellen, and when she died so unexpectedly in 2016 he decided not to leave Needham into an assisted living facility but to age in place in his own home with 24 hour care.

Ron is survived by a brother Robert and wife Paula Hylen uncle of Joanne Brown and her husband Pat, and their children Amy, Luke and Julie, Rob Jr and his children McKenna, Matthew and Nathaniel, Andrea and her three children Mary, Elizabeth and Hannah.
