Virginia Carr Obituary

Virginia “Ginny” Lea Carr (née Merry) of Longboat Key, FL formerly of Dover, MA passed away surrounded by her loving family on December 4, 2019 at the age of 92. She is survived by her beloved husband of 66 years Arthur Carr and children Karen L. Carr, Vickie E. Carr, and William G. and wife Laura Carr. Daughter of the late Virgil and Alice (née Thompson) Merry, sister of Richard and wife Donna Merry, V. Benson and wife Judy Merry, and Linda and husband David Burke, and sister-in-law of Michaele and husband Richard Wittel. Beloved grandmother of eight grandchildren, Jessica L. Fairclough, Nykki L. Reid, Kelsey Lindholm and wife Bianca, Kimberly Lopes and husband Caleb, Paul Lindholm and wife Katie Dempsey, Samantha Carr, Rachel Lindholm, and Hannah Carr, and great grandmother of Tyana L. Moore, Zanayah Moore, Maya C. Fairclough, John (Jack) Sawyer Lopes, and Siena Rose Lindholm. Aunt of many loving nieces and nephews. Virginia was predeceased by her sister Barbara E. Coleman and by her son Jeffrey Allen.

Virginia was born in Deerfield, IL, on November 10, 1927. She met her husband Arthur at the Highland Park Service Center in 1951, during the Korean War, while he was stationed at the Great Lakes Naval Station. Gifted with a beautiful soprano singing voice, Virginia both served as a hostess and entertained the sailors as part of frequent shows and as a soloist. Virginia and Arthur married in 1953, and shared their lives for 66 wonderful years. Virginia was active in the choirs at Evangelical Church in Deerfield, IL, and the Federated Church of Ashland, MA, doing solo work in church and singing at weddings and other like events.

Virginia cherished spending time with her family and friends, and enjoyed extensive travel, organizing parties and other functions, sending and receiving her long letters with others, gardening, reading, and scrapbooking. A talented photographer, she loved to take pictures and collect them for her beautiful and meticulously prepared scrapbooks. Ever the problem solver, she also loved Sudoku.

Most of all, Virginia enjoyed spending time with her loving children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, as well as her niece Cindy Colafella and her family. While other family members lived a long distance away, they were never far from her thoughts, and were always in her heart. Virginia was a loving and unwaveringly supportive wife, a wonderful mother, and a constant role model to her entire family. To all who knew her, she was a shining example of what it truly means to love, always treating others kindly and fairly and putting their needs before her own. She is dearly missed.
