Adele A. (Perry) Rex, of Newton, MA, died June 7, 2011, age 68, suddenly, of a stroke. She is survived by her dear son Daniel F. Rex, of Newton; her three loving sisters, Priscilla Perry Morris of Cambridge, MA; Frances Perry Jacober of Carbondale, CO, and Cynthia Perry Colebrook and her husband Theodore P. Colebrook of Cincinnati, OH; and her admiring nieces and nephews: Rain N. Perry (Ojai, CA), Sarah P. Morris and her husband Jeffrey A. Michael (Cambridge, MA); Edward H. Morris and his wife Susannah Sayler (Syracuse, NY); Rio, Tai and Forest Jacober and their wives Robin, Molly and Morgan, all of Carbondale, CO; Sierra J. Aldrich and her husband Travis (Chatsfield, CA); Augustine Colebrook and her husband Brian Sheadel (Medford, OR); and Priscilla C. Buse and her husband Ben (Fayetteville, AR); and many young great-nieces and -nephews: Sarah S., Stella, Wilder, Montana, Sophia, Fisher, Lily, Cooper, Abigail, Lillian, Cecelia, Tyce, Denali, Morgan, Weston, and Theo. She was pre-deceased by her brother John P. H. Perry of Santa Barbara, CA. She was formerly married to Lloyd F. Rex of Huntsville, AL. Born in Augusta, GA, in 1943 to the late John H. Perry and late Frances Sortwell Perry, Dellie was a 1961 graduate of Seven Hills School (Hillsdale), Cincinnati, OH, attended Connecticut College and graduated from the University of Colorado in Boulder in 1966. She earned her MBA from Babson and was very active in the fine wine industry for over 25 years as a wine educator, author and marketer, founding her own company, Wine Experiences, in Boston as well as Rex Associates, a regional marketing company for wineries and importers of fine wine. She was Adjunct Professor of Wine Appreciation for 12 years at Boston University’s School of Hospitality Administration and later she headed the beverage program for four years at New England Culinary Institute in Essex and Montpelier, VT. She was a member of the Society of Wine Educators and of La Commanderie de Bordeaux, an honorary society for wine connoisseurs. She served on the Board of the Elizabeth Bishop Wine Resource Center in Boston. In 1999, Boston Magazine listed Dellie as One of the Fifty Most Intriguing Women in New England, dubbing her "the wine expert's wine expert.” She was the co-author of the well-received textbook, “About Wine”, now in its second edition. In addition to her appreciation of fine wines, Dellie also loved opera, jazz and classical music and annually attended summer music concerts at Tanglewood. She was an avid reader and debater of current political and social issues, and she loved hiking and camping, often with her beloved little dog Teeny. She climbed nearly every 4,000-footer in New England as well as several trails and mountains in the Colorado Rockies. A memorial service will be held Monday, June 13, 11:30 AM, at Grace Episcopal Church, 76 Eldredge St., Newton Corner, MA. Gifts in memory of Adele P.
