Agnes MacPhail Obituary

Agnes Catherine MacPhail (MacKinnon) of East Walpole passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Monday, January 13, 2025 at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston. 

Beloved wife of the late Leroy MacPhail.  Loving mother of Joanne MacPhail-Walsh and her husband Brian Walsh and Donna MacPhail.  Also survived by her precious grandchildren Conor and Quinn Walsh and her granddog Ellie. 

Agnes is also survived by her sister-in-law Anna MacKinnon, brothers-in-law Kenzie (Kathleen) MacPhail, Calum (Mary) MacPhail, all of Nova Scotia. Dear cousin Don (Carol) MacKinnon, Ontario and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Born in Hays River, Nova Scotia, Canada, Agnes was the daughter of the late Allan and Flora Ann MacKinnon (Matheson).  She was a 1956 graduate of the Glace Bay General Hospital School of Nursing where she received her R.N. degree.  A skilled and compassionate nurse, Agnes worked at hospitals in both Nova Scotia and Massachusetts over her long career along with private duty nursing.

Besides her parents, Agnes was predeceased by her brothers Angus Neil, Donald and Billy (William) MacKinnon; sister-in-law Joy Power, parents-in-law Malcolm John and Elizabeth MacPhail.

Agnes was a passionate animal lover.  Special memories with her beloved horse, Queen, on the farm in Cape Breton to her cats Happy, Wanda and Mustard in East Walpole.  Agnes was a skilled gardener, baker, knitter and seamstress.  She loved to travel with her family.  Special trips all over New England, Washington, DC, Florida, Virginia, Ireland, Scotland and back to her homeland of Cape Breton.

A woman of deep faith, Agnes was a devoted member and deacon of the former Needham Presbyterian Church.

Agnes was devoted to her family and loved them deeply.  She took enormous joy in celebrating their milestones.

Visiting hours in the Eaton Funeral home, 1351 Highland Ave, Needham , on Friday, January 17 from 6-8 pm.  Funeral Service in the former Needham Presbyterian Church, 1458 Great Plain Ave, Needham on Saturday, January 18 at 11 am.  Interment will follow at Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton.
