Arthur J. Volk

Arthur J. Volk, a Needham resident for 63 years, died on Friday, October 7th at Avery Manor in Needham. He was 95 years old. Arthur was born in Dedham, the son of the late Clarence and Rose (Becherer) Volk. He attended Dedham schools. Arthur enlisted in the US Army in 1942 and served his country proudly during World War II. He was discharged from the Army in November of 1945. He worked for many years as a driver for White Brothers Milk. From 1972 until he retired in 1985, Arthur worked as the custodian of St. Joseph School in Needham. Mr. Volk was an avid gardener, he was very proud to share his bountiful harvest. He enjoyed reading, vacations on Cape Cod, fishing and clamming.
He was the beloved husband for 56 years of Florence (Charlantini) Volk and the loving father of Joyce Balaich and her late husband Michael of Layton UT, Carolyn Gurney and her husband Lee of Natick and Marilyn Bacon and her husband Geoffrey of Hampton VA. Brother of Dorothy Hunt and her late husband William and the late Robert Volk and his wife Geraldine. Grandfather of Samantha Hill, Micki Balaich, Charlotte Hannon, Bryan Gurney, Kara and Jenna Bacon and great grandfather of Thomas Hannon. A Funeral Service will be held in the Eaton Funeral Home 1351 Highland Ave Needham on Tuesday, October 11 at 12 Noon. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting will be held on Tuesday from 11 AM to 12 Noon prior to the service. Interment with Military Honors at St. Mary's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in Arthur's name may be made St. Joseph Schools, 1382 Highland Ave Needham MA 02492.
