Barbara Tripp Obituary

Barbara Elizabeth Owen Tripp, age 88, formerly of Needham, MA and Spring Hill, FL, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 24th. Barbara was born on February 16th, 1934, to the late Walter and Elizabeth Owen of Needham. Barbara’s big smile and loving heart will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Growing up, Barbara enjoyed spending her summers with close family at Owen’s Poultry Farm in Amherst. She was well known in the Needham community for supplying Owen’s Poultry Farm in Needham with her homemade jams and jellies, and for greeting holiday customers with her signature smile.

Barbara found immeasurable joy in the wonders of the natural world, whether she was tending to her lush gardens, searching for sea glass on the shores of Humarock, watching the manatees swim by her home on the Weeki Wachee river, or relaxing in the mountains of North Conway. She loved to share her favorite places with friends and family, and thanks to Barbara’s avid photo-taking and narrated videos, we have life-long memories of our times together.

Barbara was a true humanitarian and leaves in her passing hundreds of people who felt the blessings of her kindness. From her active involvement helping the elderly to earning a reputation for taking in sick or injured animals, Barbara led with her heart in everything she did.

She is survived by her children, Carole Farina of Rye, NH; Steven Tripp and wife Elizabeth of Windsor, CT; Lisa Sharpe and husband Michael of Rochester, MA; and Michael Tripp and wife April of Scituate, MA; her brothers Raymond Owen and James Owen, as well as 15 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Barbara was predeceased by her daughter Alison Tripp, her granddaughter Chandler Tripp, her grandson Paul Sharpe and ex-husbands Gerry Tripp and Earl Woodman.

A Memorial Service and Celebration of Barbara’s Life will be held on Monday, May 16th at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church, 858 Great Plain Avenue, Needham, MA; family and friends are warmly invited. A private burial will be held at Needham Cemetery.
