Bruce Davis Obituary

Bruce Davis, 80, of Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2024.

Bruce was born in New York City on January 12, 1944. After graduating college, he began working at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), where he met his wife, Marge. They married in 1969 and had two daughters, Megan and Paige.

Bruce spent his entire career at the NYSE, working his way up by the time he retired in 2005 to the position of Assistant Vice President in the Enforcement Department. Upon his retirement, the NYSE honored Bruce’s decades of service by allowing him to ring the opening bell on the floor of the exchange, surrounded by his family.

Bruce was working at the World Trade Center during both the 1993 bombing and the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. He seemed to have nine lives, which made his sudden death, after fighting many years against Parkinson’s disease, more of a shock.

After he and Marge retired, they settled in Massachusetts, where Bruce, because of his love of plants and gardening, took charge of the landscaping at his and Marge’s apartment building. Bruce transformed the property into a lush, green oasis that brought joy both to the building residents and to passersby. One of Bruce’s favorite things to do was to walk through the garden to admire all of the flowers and other plantings. Before he died, Bruce’s neighbors planted a tree and installed a plaque at the front of the building in Bruce’s honor.

Bruce also loved to travel, and over his lifetime, he and Marge took many wonderful trips together. His favorite places were France and Italy, and they returned to those countries multiple times. Above all, Bruce always looked forward to visiting the local food markets and to trying the local cuisine when he traveled. He was an adventurous eater and also an accomplished cook who loved to cook for his family and to entertain friends. Some of his specialties were braised lamb shanks and osso buco.

More than anything else, Bruce was a loving husband, an adoring father, and a proud grandfather. He will be greatly missed.

Friends and family will be notified regarding the details of a memorial service to honor Bruce’s life.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation in Bruce’s name to either the American Parkinson Disease Association, https://www.apdaparkinson.org/, or the Jewish Family & Children’s Service of Greater Boston, https://www.jfcsboston.org/.
