Byong Ye Kim (née Kong) of Newton, MA passed peacefully on July 31st, 2024 after a period of declining health.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years, James Kap-Dong Kim; children Sung Goo, Chul Goo (Sabra), and Grace (Doug Thamm); grandchildren Joon, Daniel, Andrew, Nathan, Teresa, Arwyn, and Bennett; her siblings Jung-Don, Byong-Seon, Byong-Hoi, Byong-Keun, Jung-Hwan, Byong-Cheon, and Byong-Soon as well as 4 great-grandchildren, many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended relatives.
She was predeceased by her parents Pan Nam Kong and Im Ye Kim, a sister, and her son Hyung-Goo Kim.
Born in Korea on October 26, 1931, she was a dedicated educator prior to immigrating to the United States with her eldest three children in 1964. In the United States she raised four children, worked as a nurse’s aide and quality control inspector, served as a church elder and participated in countless church and family events.
A 9:00 am viewing and 10:00 am funeral service will be held in her honor on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at Eaton & Mackay Funeral Home in Newton, MA followed by burial at the Newton Cemetery.
A reception will follow at the United Methodist Church of Belmont-Watertown 421 Common St., Belmont. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the church.
