C. Robinson Fish, III, C.L.U. of Waban died on Wednesday Oct 27, 2010 at Epoch of Chestnut Hill. He was 88.
Born in Worcester, he graduated from Brown University and served in the US Navy during WW II as a Lt. Jg. on board the USS Wilkes for two years in the Pacific. He developed an avid interest in the life insurance profession and became a Chartered Life Underwriter and studied and contributed to the profession and to public service in emergency medical services. He began an in-depth research into emergency medical identification in 1961. He formed a group of professional and medical leaders to study the problems. From an AMA list of possible means of medical identification, mostly gimmicks and gadgets, one charitable non-profit foundation emerged for mass use and MEDIC ALERT was founded, by Marion Collins M.D, and Rob led the Boston Underwriters in a campaign that became a model for hundreds since, often developed with his presence and assistance. He was the original Chairman of the Board of the Boston Life Underwriters Association’s “Medic Alert”, and served on the Board of Medic Alert International and volunteered for 50 years with his wife, Shirley, spreading Medic Alert worldwide.
Rob was the beloved husband for 66 years of Shirley B. (Arthur) Fish. Loving father of William Fish and his wife Linda of Concord NH, David Fish and his wife Bonnie of Newton and Marcia Bennett Riley and her husband Brian of Silver Springs MD. Grandfather of Michael Fish and his wife Amy, Alex and Ashley Fish and Christopher Riley. Great grandfather of Sidney Rose and Lucas Fish.
A memorial service will be held on Sun Oct 31 at 2 PM in St. John’s Episcopal Church 297 Lowell Ave. NEWTONVILLE. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.
