Carlton Sherman Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of life long Dover resident Carlton “Pete” Sherman on March 10, 2025. Born February 9, 1928 to Kenneth and Marion Sherman, he was predeceased by his loving wife of 73 years, Vasiliki “Bessie” Sherman.

He graduated from Wentworth Institute of Technology eventually teaching and becoming Chief electrician at the facility before moving on to work as Maintenance Manager for the William Carter Company of Needham.

Pete was dedicated to his beloved hometown of Dover and held many different positions such as serving on the Warrant Committee, Board of Appeals and as the Electrical Inspector for the town. His major contribution, one that he was most proud of was being a part of the Dover Fire Department for over 70 years. Starting as a teenager he rose through the ranks to become Chief before retiring. He then went on to serve on the Board of Engineers. He was also one of the first EMTs for Dover- a program he helped develop.

As a member of the Dover Masonic Lodge, he became Master at the age of 28.

An avid outdoorsman, Pete loved to fish, hunt, and play golf. He spent many years exploring fly fishing in the wilderness areas of Maine with his friends and family. At the young age of 70, his son and grandson took him on a fishing trip to the wilderness of Alaska fulfilling his ultimate dream.  Pete also took great pleasure in beating anyone who wished to challenge him at Cribbage. Later in life, he became a Master Gardner sharing his knowledge and a bounty of vegetables with his friends and neighbors.

Pete is survived his children Linda Kous (William) of Leland, NC and Carlton Sherman Jr. (Barbara) of Munds Park, AZ, his 6 grandchildren (Heather, Matthew, Geoff, Kym, Lindsey, and Sandy), 3 great grandchildren, and his sister Florence Mick.
