Carolyn Ruth Axt

Carolyn Ruth Axt of Needham, peacefully passed away on March 10, 2024, with her family by her side. Born in Boston on June 24, 1949, to the late A. Emily (Heenan) and William J. Axt, she grew up in Newton Centre and was graduate of Newton High School in 1965.

In 1966, the family moved to Needham where Carolyn became a member of the Charles River ARC. As an employee of the ARC, Carolyn worked at the former South Shore Bank and at Hybivet in Natick. In 1982, she joined the Charles River ARC residential family, living independently for many years. Carolyn loved bowling, “JEOPARDY”, geography, and especially the Red Sox. She attended many games at Fenway Park and went to Cooperstown, NY for the Baseball Hall of Fame. Attending the day program at Charles River afforded her the time to be with friends and discuss current events.

She leaves her sister, Barbara (Axt) McTigue, her nephew John M. McTigue and his wife Kimberly and 2 grandnephews: Andrew J. and Christopher M. McTigue, all of Ipswich, as well as many cousins and their families across the US.

A Memorial Service will be held in the Eaton Funeral home, 1351 Highland Ave, Needham, on Tuesday, May 21st at 11am, followed by interment at Ridgelawn Cemetery in Watertown.

Carolyn’s family would like to thank the staff of Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Needham, the Hospice of the South Shore and the Carles River Center in Needham for the care that they gave Carolyn.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Carolyn’s name may be made to The Charles River Center, 59 East Militia Heights Drive, Needham MA 02492.
