Christine Alexandra (MacLeod) McNaughton

Christine McNaughton, who had lived in Needham nearly all of the last 70 years, died in Needham Heights on Wednesday, April 13th. Mrs. McNaughton had lived the past 22 years at Nehoiden Glen. She was 92 years old.
Christine Alexandra MacLeod McNaughton was born 31 August 1918, the daughter of Josephine Smith and Duncan Donald MacLeod, in Englishtown, St. Ann’s, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, where she grew up until her family moved to the Boston States in 1935. She married William H. McNaughton Jr. in 1941; he died 10 April 1977, Easter, in Boston. Her brother Duncan and her three sisters, Florence Bellman, Norma MacLeod and Jean Pignatelli had predeceased her.
Christine’s MacLeods were from Assynt. The many men of her father’s and grandfather’s families were Master Mariners, on the Great Lakes and in the North Atlantic-West Indian trade respectively. Her husband had also sailed the Lakes before they met at a Down East Scottish dance in Roxbury.
Christine is survived by her son, Duncan W. McNaughton and his wife Eugenia, of San Francisco; three grandchildren, Daniel of Chicago, Io of Los Angeles and Kora of Santiago Chile; and four great-grandchildren, Asa, Calypso, Micaela and Gabriel. And as well by nieces, nephews and close family relatives in California, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Wisconsin, Chile and Nova Scotia.
With Christine’s passing goes an active reach in memory of family time back to the mid 19th century. That memory, along with her good – humored preserve of mind, her determined spirit, and her unfailing family love are now profoundly missed.
The family here expresses their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Avery Manor for the care, comfort and many kindnesses provided Christine during her last months.
Services were held on Wednesday, April 20th at the Eaton Funeral Home in Needham, followed by burial in the Needham Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in Christine’s name may be made to the Diabetes Association 330 Congress St, 5th Floor, Boston MA 02210.
