David Warren Loomis, longtime resident of Needham, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2025. Dave was married to his beloved wife Ann for nearly 60 years. He was the loving dad of Peter Loomis and his wife Kelly, Karen Zermani and her husband Rich, and Ronna Goslin and her husband Michael. Dave was also the proud and doting grandpa of Paige, Nathan, and Kelsey Loomis and Nicole, Jason, and Luke Zermani.
Born in Gardner, Massachusetts in 1944, Dave was the son of the late Donald and Elizabeth Loomis and the older brother of Duncan Loomis and his wife Tina, and Diane Tice and her husband Steve. Dave is also survived by his loving Aunt Carolyn Dean along with many cousins and nieces and nephews.
Dave spent his early childhood in Waipahu, Hawaii, where he developed his love of the beach, before moving to Westerly, Rhode Island where he was an athlete and earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and earned graduate degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and Northeastern University. During Dave’s long career at General Dynamics (formerly GTE), he became Vice President of Engineering and helped teach and promote many junior engineers. After retirement, he continued playing golf with his many GD friends.
Dave loved all sports. He was involved in his children's activities, coaching soccer and Little League and working with the Cub Scouts. He ran seven marathons after his children began running track. Beyond his passions for golf and running, Dave loved traveling and enjoying music festivals. Dave spent hours in his workshop, creating furniture and other gifts for his family and friends. He enjoyed tutoring math and working in his garden. Dave was an avid card player and a Life Master bridge player, and especially loved playing games with his grandchildren.
Dave will be terribly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A memorial service to celebrate Dave's life will be held later this summer.
Donations in his memory may be made to The Connecticut Sea Music Festival, an event that Dave enjoyed for decades, at Maritime Music & Tradition Society, P.O. Box 611, Essex CT 06426
