David G.H. Smith of West Newton, a Project Manager for Boston Showcases, died suddenly Sunday Sept 19, 2010 at the Newton Wellesley Hospital. He was 69.
Born in Nottingham England, he graduated from Welsh College of Advanced Technology and served as a Capt in the British Merchant Navy. He had been a resident of Newton since 1967 and had been a longtime member of the Newton Presbyterian Church. For many years he would deliver baked goods his wife had made to firefighters at Station 4 in Newtonville as well as other stations around the city.
David was the beloved husband for 44 years of Barbara (Brinkley) Smith, and is survived by his brother Peter, sister in law Sheila Little, a niece, 2 nephews, 4 great nieces and 2 great nephews.
Visiting hours will be in the Eaton & Mackay Funeral Home 465 Centre St. Newton Corner on Tues from 5-9 PM and the family will receive friends on Wed beginning at 12 Noon in the Newton Presbyterian Church 75 Vernon St. Newton Corner where a service will begin at 1 PM. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Cemetery, Jamaica Plain.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Christian Aid Mission, Pakistan Flood Relief 470-DIS, PO Box 9037, Charlottesville, VA 22906-9037.
