Della Winifred, (Hammond), "Winnie" Henderson of Newton died on Sunday, January 15, 2012 at Epoch of Weston Assisted living. She was 86 years old. Born in Albany NY, Winnie was the daughter of the late Lowell Page and Winifred Miriam (McNamee) Hammond. She was a graduate of the Mt. Sinai Hospital School of Nursing in New York. Winnie was a resident of Newton for 60 years. She worked as a Public Health Nurse for the City of Newton for 22 years, retiring in 1988. Mrs. Henderson was an active member of the former Newton Center United Methodist Church and a member of the Carter Memorial United Methodist Church in Needham. She loved her pets and being in her garden.
The beloved wife of the late Edward G. Henderson, she was the loving mother of Edward G. Jr., and his wife Susan of Tewksbury, Donna H. MacMillan and her husband Jerry Miller of Newton and Beth Brownell and her husband Tom of Charlton, NY. Sister of the late Delores and Rita, she was the dear grandmother of Edward, David, Emily, Sadie, Jessica and Andrew and great grandmother of Samantha, Charlotte and Adam. Visiting hours will be held in the Eaton Funeral Home 1351 Highland Ave Needham on Wednesday, January 18 from 4-7 PM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. A Memorial Service will be held in the Carter Memorial United Methodist Church, 800 Highland Ave Needham on Thursday at 10:30 AM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers donations in Winnie's name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 311 Arsenal St, Watertown MA 02472 or to the Circle of Caring at the Hospice of the Good Shepherd, 2042 Beacon St, Newton MA 02462.
