Dimitrios Deligiannides Obituary

Dimitrios Deligiannides, affectionately known as Takis, was born in Katerini, Greece, on December 14, 1937, to Theoharis (God’s Grace) and Dorothea (God’s gift) Deligiannides. He was the 3rd of 4 children: George, Ismini, Takis and Mary.  On Sept. 19, 1962 he married Hariclia(Lia) Kioulloglou at the Greek Evangelical Church of Katerini. . They had their one and only son, Hariton, and in December of 1970, they moved to the United States. Though he brought his family to the U.S. for a better life, He always would say that God had more important purposes for coming here because it was here that he humbly acknowledged that He was a sinner, that Jesus Christ was the perfect Savior who paid the penalty for his sin, and He placed his faith and trust in Christ alone!

While in Greece he worked in the hotel industry and as a trucker. In the States he became a self-employed plumber and worked with many associates, the most recent being Nick Darides, with whom they established their business HDM.

He loved to sing in the church choir. That all began from Greece at the Greek Evangelical Church of Katerini. And when here in the States that love for singing the great hymns of the Christian faith continued at the Greek Evangelical Church of Boston, at Grace Chapel in Lexington, MA and then at Hellenic Gospel Church in Newton Corner as the choir director. As the keeper of Hellenic Gospel Church in Newton Corner, he opened up the doors for other ethnic congregations to use the building, including a Filipino church, a Haitian church, a Brazilian church, and an Arabic church.

He loved his family. He enjoyed the holidays with them and going on vacations with his wife and his son’s family with all the grandkids.  He especially lit up and was transformed when speaking of his 3 grandchildren, Isabella, Elizabeth, and Zachary. He would often say of his daughter-in-law, Morfoula (Meta) that she was the daughter he never had. And he loved his wife Lia, married for 62 years. He served her tirelessly especially in the last 2 years.

He and his son loved watching sports together, the 80’s Larry Bird Celtics and the Pats during their 2-decade dynastic run. But he would often tell his son and others that his greatest joy as a father was that his son was a child of God and that he was serving in the Lord’s work.

He leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Lia, his sisters Ismini and Mary in Greece, his nephew Harry and his wife Eva and their children Maria and Carlos, his niece Mitzi and her husband Paris and their children Alex and Katerina, his nephew Kosta and his wife Kristina and their children Sophia and George, and in Greece his niece Bessie and her husband Tasso and their children Angelo and Ismini, his niece Angeliki and his nephew Dimitri and his child Romano (now Electra), and his son Hariton, Morfoula (Meta) and 3 grandchildren Isabella, Elizabeth and Zachary.

Visitation will be in the Greek Evangelical Church of Boston 1115 Centre St., Newton Center on Fri Nov 1 from 5-8 PM. His funeral service will be in the Church on Sat Nov 2 beginning at 10:30 AM followed by interment in The Gardens, West Roxbury.

Because of Dimitrios’ background in construction and his love for the church, instead of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the building fund, which he was passionate about, at “Mendon Community Church”.  Please send donations to Jenna Clark, 33 Eric Dr., Uxbridge, MA 01569.
