Donald Larking (O’Loughlin), A Life Defined by Unwavering Love and Dedication
Donald Larking, a man whose life was a testament to extraordinary courage and unwavering devotion to his family, passed away unexpectedly on November 14, 2025, at the age of 79. Born Donald O’Loughlin, he legally changed his name later in life. He was a beloved husband, a dedicated caregiver, and a father whose commitment ensured his daughter had every opportunity to thrive.
Born on March 10, 1946, in East Holyoke, MA, Donald was the only child of Robert and Yvonne O’Loughlin, both of whom he lost at a relatively young age. He attended American International College in Springfield, where he studied history and, more importantly, met the love of his life, Rosemary.
After marrying, Donald and Rosemary moved to Newton, Massachusetts. Their greatest act of shared courage came with the decision to start a family. As Rosemary was a quadriplegic, they faced tremendous medical challenges and were discouraged by initial doctors from continuing the pregnancy. Showing profound faith and mutual conviction, Donald and Rosemary sought out medical professionals who supported their belief in life, leading to the miraculous birth of their daughter, Anna (née Lorelei).
Donald was a committed husband and father in the truest sense. He chose to make caring for Rosemary his life’s work and was her dedicated primary caregiver throughout her life. Simultaneously, he became a devoted stay-at-home father, personally ensuring Anna received exceptional educational opportunities—from the prestigious Winsor School for girls in Boston to rigorous math camps at Boston University and MIT, far outpacing the family’s economic means. His sacrifices and boundless support shaped Anna’s achievements.
Donald endured profound sorrow late in life. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rosemary, who passed away in 2021 at the age of 72. He also suffered the devastating loss of his cherished daughter, Anna, in 2023.
He is survived by four adored grandchildren who loved him dearly, visited him often, and carry forward his legacy of quiet strength and deep commitment.
A private family service will be held.
