Dorothy (Leeper) Kinne, a lifelong Needham resident, passed away on August 30, 2024. She had just celebrated her 103rd birthday.
Dorothy graduated from Needham High in 1939, after which she earned a Bachelor’s degree in library science from Simmons College. She worked as a corporate librarian before starting a family, and she passed a love of reading on to her children.
Dot was raised in First Baptist Church in Needham, was later an active member of The Congregational Church of Needham, and later returned to First Baptist. Dot was a longtime member of Wistaria Chapter, OES, a Town Meeting member, and a warden at the polls on many election days. She was also an avid bridge player, loved to sew and had worked at Jackson Fabrics in Needham, but most of all she was devoted to her family.
Wife of the late Clifton Barnes Kinne, she is survived by her children Jeffrey S. Kinne, Betsy K. Hines, Ralph L. Kinne, Deborah K. Lyons and Eric P. Kinne, and her grandchildren Lisa Kinne, John W. Hines, Jennifer N. Hines, Kelley Kinne, Travis Kinne, Christopher Kinne, Ryan Kinne, Nicholas Kinne, Mark Staplin-Young, Hunter Lyons and Emmett Lyons. She is pre deceased by her son, Mark P. Kinne. She was the sister of the late Lois Scovill.
A visiting hour will be held in the Eaton Funeral Home at 1351 Highland Ave Needham on Thurs Sept 5 beginning at 10 AM followed by her funeral service at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Interment Needham Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in memory of Dorothy may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105.
