Dorothy Grant Swangren, 94, of Mattapoisett, formerly of Lakeville, Dover and Westwood, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family.
Dot is predeceased by her beloved husband of 59 years, O. William Swangren. Dot grew up in Brookline; upon graduating from Brookline High School she began a secretarial career. She worked locally until she married the love of her life. Dot worked at Martin Aircraft in Baltimore while her husband served in the military during the Korean War. Returning to Massachusetts, they set down roots in Westwood for 25 years before moving to Dover. The family spent many summers at their Cape house in Pocasset. After raising their family Dorothy went back to work as a secretary at Wellesley College, first in the Athletic Department then in the Health Center prior to retiring. Upon retiring Dot and Bill enjoyed travelling. They spent over 20 years as “snow birds” in Naples, Florida, took trips to mid-coast Maine, and a trip to Europe.
Dot was an avid gardener and loved playing tennis. She was very generous, caring, and loved spending time with family and friends. Dot enjoyed hosting parties and events at their home in Dover as well as attending many events with the Friends of the Library at Boston University.
She is survived by her four children, Peter Swangren of West Wareham, Judith Cavanaugh and her husband John of Harvard, David Swangren and his wife Karen of Pahrump, Nevada, Linda Coelho and her husband Carlos of Mattapoisett. She is predeceased by her beloved grandson Jameson Swangren. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Dana (Cavanaugh) Duquet and her husband Stephen, Alexa Cavanaugh, Krystal (Swangren) Allerdt and her husband Nick, Carson Coelho, and Cameron Coelho, as well as 7 great grandchildren.
A private Celebration of Life was held at Carter Memorial United Methodist Church where Dorothy had been part of the Choir for over 50 years.
