Douglas MacPherson Obituary

Douglas N. MacPherson on Dec 14, 2025, of Boston, born on Oct 24, 1931, formerly of Cambridge, Burlington and Needham.

Doug was born in Boston in 1931, the son of Hugh MacPherson and Mary MacViar, recent migrants from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Raised in Boston, Newton and Needham, Doug graduated from Needham High School in 1949 and then spent 4 years in the USAF during the Korean War. At the conclusion of his military duty Doug attended Boston University completing his BS Degree in 2 years. After graduating from BU Doug worked as an investigator with the US GAO in San Francisco, Honolulu, and Boston. He later worked at Avco-Everett Research Lab in Everett, MA and then concluded his working career at the multi-national company EG&G Inc, in Wellesley as Corporate Director of Operation Analysis. Upon retirement from EG&G, Doug studied Chinese Medicine and practiced acupuncture in Cambridge for several years. Doug, like his twin brother Robert, was a pilot and a longtime opera aficionada.

Doug was the devoted husband of the late Nancy (McCue) MacPherson, devoted father of MaryEllen MacPherson and her partner Donna Beinfield of Palm Springs, CA, Kate Farrell and her partner Vic of Arizona City, AZ and David  MacPherson of Boston; twin brother of the late Robert MacPherson of Atlanta, GA, the late  Roy MacPherson of Lincolnville, ME and the late Corrine Binney and her partner Robert Binney of Wrentham, MA and the late Norma MacPherson of St. Petersburgh, FL. Grandfather of Dan Farrell of Hookset, NH, David MacPherson Jr., Sean MacPherson, Grace MacPherson of Boston and the late Kristen Farrell;  great grandfather of Jakala, Jayke and Janella Bennet of Palm Springs CA. Doug also leaves his sister in law Helga, nephew Eric, nieces Pam and Lisa, and his late nephew Chris. Doug also leaves very special friends who have been very important to the nourishment of his life; Patricia MacPherson of Boston, Paula Barone of Weymouth, Maria Santos and her partner Leslie Sills of Brookline, Karen, Gary and Nick Samuelson-Hawley and their dog Lola of Arlington, and the late Norma Giliker of Woburn and Fay Reich of AZ. Doug also leaves behind his friends from the Movement Center in Portland, OR, its Medford Branch, and especially the Movement leader Swami Chetananda.

A visiting hour will be held on Sat Dec 27 beginning at 10 AM in the Eaton Funeral Home 1351 Highland Ave Needham followed by a memorial service at 11.  Interment with US Air Force Military Honors will be in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Burlington.
