On Sunday September 5, 2021, Edmund Michael Oles, of Needham, born March 20, 1952, passed away at Newton Wellesley Hospital, after a long battle with colorectal cancer and dementia surrounded by two of his three children.
Born in York, Pennsylvania, Edmund grew up in a family of seven, his father a restaurant manager and mother a homemaker. He spent his childhood moving around as his father switched jobs, living in towns like Winchester, MA and Holyoke, MA. After his parents divorced, Edmund relocated, with his mother and younger siblings, to Rochester, NY, where he attended high school and then college, studying Economics at Suny Cortland before earning his Master’s in Computer Science from Binghamton University.
He enjoyed a long and prosperous career in the computer industry, spanning nearly four decades before his declining health forced him into an earlier retirement. His family will always remember him for his frugal ways, his delight in watching his bank account grow and an old joke he shared with his daughter that his money would be lonely without her money in his wallet when she’d ask him for the allowance he held. He’ll also be remembered for his quirky ways and unintentional humor, how he made his children laugh without even trying. His love of food and snacking in the middle of the night, loathing to throw anything away, nicknaming himself “the garbage disposal” when his children wouldn’t finish their meals.
He is survived by his three children; daughter, Theresa, of Arlington; son, Michael, of Weymouth and another son, Matthew, of Seattle, Washington. He will be greatly missed by his family.
