In Loving Memory of Edna Marie Atkinson
May 17, 1937 – July 25, 2025
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Edna Marie Atkinson (Precious), lovingly known as Marie, who left this world peacefully at home, surrounded by family on July 25, 2025, at the age of 88.
Born in Newton, Massachusetts on May 17, 1937, Marie was the oldest of eleven siblings, Ann Borelli, Theresa Dietz, Gerald Precious, Leona Boudrot, Donna Ciccariello, Bernadette Allen, Ruthann Pearce and the late Richard Precious, Jean Robitaille, and Jack Precious. She grew up in a home filled with the values of love, hard work, and family — values she carried with her throughout her life.
She was the beloved wife of the late David Atkinson, with whom she shared many years of devotion, partnership, and joy. They resided in Needham and together raised three sons: David Jr, Richard, and Douglas. They were active in the Needham Youth Hockey program, volunteering countless hours at the rink.
Marie was a proud grandmother to seven grandchildren; James, Valerie, Matthew, Jennifer, Kevin, DeLacy and Deegan. She was also a Great-grandmother to six, Luciana, Leo, Jayce, Donovan, Evelyn and Lily. She was also known to many as the warm, familiar voice on the phone at DL Atkinson Inc., where she played a vital role in the family business and became a trusted presence to countless customers over the years.
Marie enjoyed time with her family in Ogunquit and Old Orchard Beach Maine. She always looked forward to weekly visits from her childhood friend, Bob Quinn.
Marie will be remembered for her generous heart, her quiet strength, and her unwavering kindness. Her home was a place of warmth and acceptance, where you could always find her at the head of the table with open arms and a listening ear. To know her was to be unconditionally loved, and her memory will be lovingly cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Marie leaves behind her devoted sons, David Jr & his wife Donna, Richard & his wife Helen, and Douglas & his wife Trish. As well as her cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many siblings, nieces, nephews and friends.
Visiting hours will be held in the Eaton Funeral Home, 1351 Highland Ave, Needham, on Tuesday July 29th from 4-7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Joseph Church, 1360 Highland Ave, Neeham, on Wednesday July 30th at 10am. Interment to follow at Needham Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to The Good Shepard Hospice, (https://gscommunitycare.org/donate) honoring her generous spirit and their loving and devoted care of her in her last year, particularly Lily and Juliette.
She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
