She was born on May 13, 1949 and died on August 2, 2023.
She lived in Needham, MA, with her devoted husband, Dr. Robert Mercer, for their entire marriage of over 40 years. They enjoyed spending many weekends together at their home in Rockport, MA. Elaine was an animal lover; their cats were total characters who would accompany them to the shore.
Throughout her life, she enjoyed reading novels and teaching herself German. She was an artist who painted in watercolors and oils. She loved all kinds of music, particularly rock and folk from the 1960s.
Elaine worked for over a decade for Blue Cross Blue Shield before she resigned due to disability that was the result of multiple sclerosis. Despite her illness, she was an optimist.
For college, Elaine attended Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and went to Newton South High School in Newton, MA, Class of 1967.
