Elaine L. (Hung) Sweet , 89 of Needham

She served as a choir member and on the Altar Guild for over 60 years at Christ Episcopal Church in Needham. Her love of serving her community through the church’s ministries included feeding the homeless in Boston as well as visiting and delivering meals to those in need.

The Christ Church Congregation, Clergy and Staff become a second family and Elaine was so thankful to have them, especially after the loss of her husband Fred in 2002.

She also loved being a big part of her High School Planning Committee for decades.

She was Married for almost 50 years to her devoted Husband Fred Sweet, Marine Corp. Veteran. They loved spending time with each other from raising their four children to just simply doing the Sunday crossword together. She was a homemaker who loved caring for her four children, hosting holiday dinners, cooking and baking her legendary “Christmas Cookies” She always enjoyed picking out gifts for her Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.

Elaine enjoyed summering on Cape Ann, where her parents met and married.

Her mother was from Scotland, an accomplished opera singer and her father a business entrepreneur from China.  She loved swimming and spending time with her Gloucester friends and watching the sunsets.

She loved singing and playing the piano and accordion. Having met Ted Willams when she was young, helped make her an avid Red Sox fan, watching almost every game. She loved her many pets, animals, gardening, plants and flowers. Elaine was the family historian, through her volumes of photos albums, and her well documented and researched family tree.

She loved to be with people, in person or talking on the phone using her quick wit and sense of humor. In the past year, she enjoyed living with her youngest daughter Jennifer in Danvers, still completing lots of puzzles and enjoying dinners out with her family.
