Eleanor Sullivan Obituary

Eleanor Frances Sullivan, a beloved member of the Wellesley community and devoted mother, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2023, at the age of 93 in Dedham, MA

Eleanor was born in Boston on May 21, 1929, and spent her childhood in the South End before moving to West Roxbury, MA. After graduating from high school, she pursued a career in laboratory science and worked as a laboratory manager at the Beth Israel Hospital in Boston.

Eleanor was married to Dr. Albert C. Sullivan and together they raised four children: Marsia, Bruce, Laura, and Christopher. Eleanor was devoted to her children and worked tirelessly to promote their education. She was a devout Christian and served for many years on the Altar Guild at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Wellesley. She was actively involved in the church's charitable endeavors and always had a kind word for anyone who needed it.

Eleanor resided in Wellesley, MA for over 40 years where she dedicated much of her time to supporting the elderly and less fortunate in her community. As director of the Simond’s Fund, she distributed financial aid and support to those in need during crisis moments in their lives. She also served on the Wellesley Council on Aging, Friends of Wellesley Senior Neighbors, and the Wellesley Senior Center, where she worked relentlessly to improve the lives of older adults in her community.

Eleanor was predeceased by her loving sister, Rose Marie Tognarelli, and her daughter, Marsia Francess. She is survived by her son, Dr. Bruce E. Sullivan, and his wife Joanne Galka of Weston, MA, her daughter Dr. Laura E. Sullivan and husband Patrick Marquis of Norwood, MA, and her son Dr. Christopher A. Sullivan and his wife Mary Lynn Sullivan of Winston-Salem, NC. She also leaves behind five grandchildren, Rachael Frey, Elizabeth Marquis, Victoria Marquis, Eleanor Mercer Sullivan, Benton Christopher Sullivan, and great-grandson Gerald Frey, her former husband, Dr. Albert C. Sullivan, and her loving nieces Paula Tognarelli of Cambridge, MA, Ellen Tognarelli of Norwood, MA, and nephew David Tognarelli of Santa Barbara, CA.

Eleanor will be remembered as a kind, generous, and loving woman who dedicated her life to her family and the less fortunate. Her legacy will live on through her family, friends and the many people whose lives she touched over her lifetime. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
