Elizabeth D. "Betty" May, a lifelong resident of Needham, died on Wednesday, December 14th at her home. She was 96 years old. Betty was a graduate of Needham High School Class of 1932 and Wellesley College Class of 1936. She worked for White Weld, now Merrill Lynch, as an administrative assistant, retiring in 1986. Betty was an active member of First Parish in Needham, serving in many capacities over her lifetime. She was a founder of the Parish Choir. Betty was a member of the Needham Historical Society. She was a former member of the Needham Philharmonic where she played violin, the Needham recorder group, Bell Ringers and the Whig and Whiskers theater group. Betty was a longtime supporter of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. She enjoyed summers in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. She was the dear daughter of the late Benjamin D. and Edith (Chickering) May and sister of the late Gordon K. May. Betty is survived by her cousin of Charlotte Follensbee and her husband Robert of Lancaster and by many dear friends. Private graveside services were held at the family plot in Needham Cemetery. A Memorial Service will be held at First Parish Unitarian Universalist, 23 Dedham Ave Needham on Saturday, January 7, 2012. In lieu of flowers donations in Betty's name may be made to the Music Endowment Fund at First Parish, 23 Dedham Ave., Needham, MA 02492.. T
