Elizabeth A. 'Betty" (McCurdy) Mills

Elizabeth A. “Betty” Mills of Needham, MA & Durham, NC died on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at Duke Regional Hospital in Durham, NC. She was 88 years old. Born in Cambridge, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Sylvia (Meehan) McCurdy.  Betty grew up in Wellesley and was a graduate of Wellesley High School Class of 1952. She also graduated from Duke University in 1956 & married in 1957.  She moved to Needham in 1959. Later she attended Simmons College & earned a Master’s degree in Library Science.  Betty worked for 25 years as a school librarian in Milton, MA at both the elementary & high school level.  She loved sharing her love of books with children of all ages.  She served the town of Needham as a Town Meeting member for several years. Betty was a member of the Friends of BU Hockey and loved attending BU hockey home games with her husband Mike.  As a Duke graduate, she also enjoyed watching Duke Basketball games.  Betty enjoyed reading, boating, and being near the water.  She enjoyed travelling with family, especially when it involved her yearly trip to Aruba with her husband, sister, & brother-in-law.

The beloved wife of Albert “Mike” Mills for 53 years, and the loving mother of Karen Mills of Durham, NC. Sister of the late Joan Elton & her husband Dr. Richard Elton of Lancaster, CA and aunt of James, David, June & Renee Elton. She is also survived by 9 loving grand nieces and nephews. Funeral services at the Christ Episcopal Church Chapel, 1132 Highland Ave Needham on Thursday, August 11th at 10am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Visiting hours at the Eaton Funeral Home 1351 Highland Ave Needham on Wednesday, August 10th from 4-7PM. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Wellesley. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Jimmy Fund www.danafarber.jimmyfund.org
