Elizabeth Rider Obituary

Elizabeth D. Rider, 97, of Northfield, MA passed away at her home on February 28, 2011. She was born on September 30, 1913 in Vinalhaven, Maine to the late James and Jesse Davidson. She grew up in Boston and then became a fifty-five year resident of Needham. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Judge Daniel H. Rider.
Mrs. Rider. Graduated from Girls High School in 1931 after which she attended Boston Clerical School. She worked as a secretary in Boston for the H.D. Kepner Leather Company. In 1938 she was employed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the War Department as a stenographer.
An active member of First Baptist Church of Needham, Mrs. Rider sang in the church choir and was a Sunday school teacher for many years. She also enjoyed her Calendar Group and the Baptist Women’s Society. She served as a Deaconess of the church. She also belonged to the Florence Crittenton League.
Mrs. Rider is survived by her two daughters, Barbara Simard (David) of Palm Beach Gardens FL, and Nancy Spanbauer (John) of Northfield; two sons, Daniel H. (Sheila) of Belchertown and James S. (Linda) of Northfield; two grandchildren, Jocelyn Delaney (Kevin) of Greenland NH and Matthew Rider of Belchertown, MA; and one great grandchild, Nathan Delaney of Greenland NH.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tues April 19, 2011 at the First Baptist Church of Needham 858 Great Plain Ave. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Elizabeth Rider may be made to Hospice of Franklin County, 329 Conway St. Greenfield, MA 01301 or Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society, 163 Montague Rd. Levertett, MA 01054.
