Florence Eugenia “Ginny” Chew of Natick, formerly of Needham, passed away on February 17, 2023. Ginny was born on May 8, 1929 in Boston, MA to Jones M. and Lenora E. Wing and was raised and educated in Arlington, MA with her 6 siblings - Fonton, Doris, Evelyn, Nancy, Ewing, Jones and 2 cousins - Walter and James. She is survived by her brother Jones D. Wing and wife Elizabeth of Newton, MA, cousin Walter Wing’s wife Wanda of Boston, MA, and cousin James Wing’s wife Mildred of Elmhurst, IL. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Ruth Moy of Needham and Boston, MA. She was an avid Red Sox fan and enjoyed playing the piano. Her father set her up with his best friend’s son, Philip. They were married for 43 years and had 3 children. She was predeceased by Philip and their youngest daughter, Cindy.
She and Phil raised their family in Needham and were involved with the Charles River Workshop (now Charles River Center) in Needham, she employed for a time managing the cafeteria. She also worked as a bookkeeper and helped Phil with his stock market charts. She volunteered in Boston’s Chinatown and worked with the Chinese American Civic Association (CACA), the Sampan newspaper, the Golden Age Center, and The Chinese Women’s Oral History Program.
They moved to Natick, where Ginny was devoted to her grandchildren. She nurtured their imaginary play and fed them the foods that invoke happy memories of their Nana. She kept active with her Tai Chi and exercise friends, the Natick Garden Club, The Center for Arts in Natick (TCAN), Amazing Things Art Center (atac), and the gift shop in the MetroWest Medical Center-Leonard Morse Hospital.
She is survived by her 2 children: Allyson Wong and husband Ted of Natick, MA and Brian Chew (his wife Lois Angerami passed November 28, 2020) of Taos, NM; her grandchildren: Kristen Wong Callisto and husband Chris of Silver Springs, MD, Lindsey Wong and husband Chris Bangs of Annandale, VA, Gregory Wong of Natick, and Leisa Angerami of North Truro, MA; her great grandchildren: Zachery, Madesyn, Graesyn, and Evrhys; great great grandchild, Hayden; and her many nieces and nephews.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Eaton Funeral Home, 1351 Highland Avenue, Needham, on Sunday March 12th from 2-4 pm. Burial is private.
