Francis I. Burokas 96, retired Newton Police Officer, of Newton, passed away on Monday, January 11, 2021. Francis was a US Army World War II veteran. After the war, he worked for GE in Lynn. He was appointed to the Newton Police Dept. in 1960 and enjoyed a 25-year career, retiring in 1985. Francis was a member of the VFW and American Legion in Newton. He and his beloved wife Lucille enjoyed summers on Cape Cod. He enjoyed gardening and was a lifelong avid Boston sports fan. Above all, he would want to be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and a loyal friend. The beloved husband of the late Lucille (Roklan) Burokas he was the loving father of Laureen Guariglia and her husband Joseph, Donna Burokas–Carleton and her husband Robert Carleton and Gary Burokas. Brother of the late Benedict and Alphonse Burokas. Grandfather of Matthew, Kevin and James Guariglia, Steven, Gary and Elena Carleton. Great grandfather of Isabella Guariglia. Uncle of James Burokas and his wife Kathy. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in Mary Immaculate of Lourdes Church, 270 Elliot St., Newton Upper Falls, on Thursday, January 14th at 10:30am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Interment with Military Honors to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Needham. All attendees must adhere to COVID guidelines, including wearing a face covering and maintaining proper social distance.
