Francis B. “Franny” Daly Jr., age 68, of Scituate, formerly of Newton, passed away after a long and courageous battle with cancer on December 28, 2024, at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital with his beloved wife of 44 years, Janice (MacMillan), by this side. Franny was the devoted father of Owen F. Daly and his wife Kate, Luke A. Daly and his wife Emilie, and the grandfather of Aila, Fiona, Owen, Jack, and Finn Daly, all of Scituate.
Franny was also the dear brother of Rosemary Daly of Mashpee, Michael C. and his late wife Nancy of Watertown, Patrick J. and his wife Jayne of Falmouth, Sheila B. Boyle and her husband Owen “Jamie” of Eastham, Maura C. Iversen of Newton, and Brendan J. of West Roxbury. Brother- in- law of Judith MacInnes (Fraser) of Framingham, Sandra Siciliano (Joseph) of Newton, Diane Clary (William) of New Hampshire and the late Malcolm MacMillan (Diane) of Framingham. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and two great grandnieces to whom he was devoted. Franny was predeceased by his parents Francis B. Daly Sr. and Sarah T. “Sally” Daly of Newton.
A Newton native, Franny was a proud graduate of Catholic Memorial High School and Wentworth Institute of Technology. He spent his working career as a builder and structural engineer in the construction industry for the Wm. Keller Corp., George B.H. Macomber Co., Franchi Corp., and John Moriarty Assoc., before establishing his own firm of FB Daly Builders in Newton. Franny was devoted to his childhood friends from Sacred Heart Grammar School in Newton and that friendship continued throughout his lifetime. The Daly family will be forever thankful for the joy and laughter all who visited Franny brought to him in his final days and throughout his lifetime. Franny loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, his family, his Boykin spaniels, Ruari and Malachy, and sailing. His happiest times were spent on the water with family and friends. He will be remembered by all for his sparkling blue eyes and endearing smile. Franny had many gifts and talents, he always gave, never expecting anything in return. Forget six degrees of separation, Franny possessed the Daly trait of never walking into a room and meeting a stranger.
As per Franny’s express wishes, final arrangements will be private. A celebration of life will be held early this summer at his beloved seaside home in Scituate. In lieu of flowers, a donation in memory of Franny to the Place of Promise, P.O. Box 1132, Lowell MA 01853, www.placeofpromise.org, would be appreciated.
