Francis L. "Frank" Woods

Francis L. Woods, a Needham resident for 48 years, died at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital, Needham, MA on Thursday, December 8. Mr. Woods was the son of the late Francis and Helen Woods of Springfield, MA. Frank was a graduate of Cathedral High School in Springfield, MA class of 1948 and the United States Merchant Marine Academy class of 1953 in Kings Point, New York. While at Kings Point, Frank was a champion boxer. Following graduation, he was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy in August of 1953 on the USS Cone during the Korean War. Frank served on active duty from February 6, 1954 thru January 27, 1956. He served in the Naval Reserve from 1958 to 1961. Frank retired after 34 years as an engineer with New England Telephone and Telegraph/NYNEX.
Frank is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Regina Cawley Woods and his children, Martha Winebarger and her husband Craig of Greenville, SC, Moira Woods -Williams of Ft. Myers, FL, Catherine Tilton and her husband John, and Eric Woods and his wife Sharon, all of Needham. Frank was predeceased by his beloved daughter Barbara Cote, December 20, 2002. Frank is also survived by his nine grandchildren, David Waterhouse, Catherine and Alex Winebarger, all of Greenville, SC, Brent Williams of Ft. Myers, FL, Cassandra and Connor Cote' of Westwood, MA, Molly and Eleanor Tilton, and Hannah Woods, all of Needham, MA. Frank is survived by his twin brothers Richard Woods of Sarasota, FL and Robert Woods, of Palm Springs, CA.
Funeral from the Eaton Funeral Home 1351 Highland Ave Needham on Tuesday, December 13 at 9am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Saint Joseph Church at 10:00, concluding with Military Honors. Visiting hours are Monday, December 12 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. A Private interment will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery.
